Are You Integrating Your Online And Offline Marketing?

Do you have an effective online and offline marketing strategy?

As the digital economy becomes a fact of life, many businesses have come to rely on their website and social media platforms to drive traffic and sales.

It would appear that businesses are abandoning the traditional forms of marketing to capture more exposure and greater access to potential customers.

The methods that most businesses today are using online are blogging, social media, email marketing and PPC (pay per click).

The attraction is that you can get in front of more people with less effort as platforms like Facebook have over 1 billion users.

Social media for business is still in its infancy and many businesses are still trying to figure out how to capitalize on this.

The real dilemma is having two completely different types of marketing strategies and integrating them together.

Online and offline marketing requires a 35 thousand foot overview.

Online and offline marketing requires two completely different marketing teams and integration is a real challenge.

Are online marketing services successful?

Unfortunately, online-only marketing is not delivering for many businesses.

As more companies vie for attention online, capturing the attention of potential customers is a challenge.

According to a study done by DoubleClick (a subsidiary of Google that develops and provides internet ad services), online advertising yields only 0.06 % CTR (click through rate).

Another survey from small business consultant Manta, reveals that more than half of small business owners (59 %) don’t see a return on investment from their social media efforts.

Does this mean that online advertising does not work?

Traditional offline marketing has been around forever and the new kid on the block is social media marketing.

Depending on the type of business you have, creating a marketing strategy that is adaptable for both online and offline marketing is a challenge.

Part of the problem is that you have to know your target market and then figure out where they are hanging out online.

I have seen so many companies use a blanket strategy that covers all forms of social media and this is not effective.

How do you go about finding the right company that can create an effective online and offline marketing strategy for you?

Most business owners have little knowledge of marketing in general let alone online marketing.

What are some offline marketing ideas that have performed?

Offline marketing or traditional marketing have served the marketplace for decades.

There is no doubt that technology and social media has altered the way we connect, engage and communicate.

Online And Offline Marketing

Here are some of the traditional offline marketing methods.

  1. Newspaper
  2. Billboards
  3. Radio
  4. Direct mail
  5. Television
  6. Trade shows

As everyone knows newspaper is going the way of the dinosaur.

Billboards are costly ways of branding.

Radio is less effective because of electronic devices that allow people to listen to what they want.

Direct mail, if done properly can still be effective but it totally depends on what you are marketing.

Television is an expensive way to go for most business owners.

Trade shows are still very popular if you find a way to capture the leads and follow up.

For many decades branding was important and businesses like McDonald’s used their golden arches to brand their image.

The key is to synchronize your online and offline marketing so that works in harmony.

Marketing offline or online today requires you to be creative

There are 5 generations in the the workplace and 4 generations in the marketplace.

That is a lot of different mindsets and generational differences that you have to reach with your message.

Marketing offline can still be effective if you understand the marketplace you are trying to reach.

The baby boomer does not resonate with the same message as generation “Y”.

You have to be prepared to experiment with different marketing approaches to reach your audience.

Online And Offline Marketing

Successful marketing offline campaigns were often built on the foundation of building relationships with your customers.

The same principle still applies today with all generations but the message to market match has to be crafted differently.

You have to know your target market.

Too often marketers set up their campaigns to push features and this never works.

People don’t buy products, they buy what the products will do for them.

For example, people don’t buy light bulbs, they buy light.

You need to get into the head of your target market if you want to be successful.

Offline marketing ideas that still get results

A lot of business owners are caught between how the past used to work and where the future is going.

As the internet and technology keeps changing, so does our way of doing things.

As long as there are baby boomers, and that will be for awhile, offline marketing ideas will still resonate with people.

A lot of people have forgotten that picking up the phone and talking to people is still a powerful way to connect.

We are, after all, social creatures by nature and when we experience face to face interactions it helps build trust.

One of the principles I have taught and apply to my marketing has been and always will be to build relationships first.

Provide value to people the way that they want, not the way that I want.

Personal touch is a key factor in establishing and building a relationship with your customers.

Especially today, when so many big companies offer crappy customer service.

If you are the king of customer service you will stand out and have loyal raving fans.

Online and offline marketing is an opportunity to reach more potential customers

The question I have to ask you as a business owner, big or small, “Do you blend in or stand out?”

Most business owners online and offline today are just noisy marketers.

Online And Offline Marketing

Online And Offline Marketing

How many businesses do you buy from, eat at or have a service done that you will gladly recommend?

Chances are, you are like most and talk about more negative experiences than positive ones.

The foundation of all your online and offline marketing  must be built on the principles of know, like and trust.

What is the most powerful form of advertising?

It is and always will be, word of mouth.

Then why don’t more business owners get it?

Technology is frustrating for a lot of people and it still intimidates many people.

Make that experience as smooth as possible.

Same thing goes for your offline marketing ideas.

Create things that connect and offer people real value.

If you do this successfully you will stand out and your loyal raving fans will accelerate the growth of your business.

The integration of your online and offline marketing will determine the level of your success

The key to combining online and offline marketing is building your strategy around your customers buying preferences.

This is where knowing your target market is essential.

The social media component is not as challenging as you might think.

Where are your customers hanging out?

Chances are your potential customers are one or at most two types of social media.

Therefore, don’t try to conquer every social media platform.

How many times have you done on any social media platform to buy shoes?

Exactly, neither have your customers.

Use the social media as just that, social media.

Connect, engage, communicate and start the relationship building process.

Then you move them to the environment you control, your blog or website.

Stop doing a reverse order of the Pareto Principle which is the 80/20 rule.

Provide value and solutions 80% of the time and 20% promotion.

Take off your business hat and put on your consumer hat.

How do you like to be treated?

What do want your experience to be?

That is exactly what you create for your customers.

Do you want to learn how to drive more traffic, convert more traffic to leads and more leads to sales?

And be building a relationship throughout the entire process.

There is a strategic process and you can have 100% free access to a step by step guided training (online).

  1. Great post. I always find it amazing how many people get their marketing just plain wrong, especially here in Mexico. The commercials are a disaster, billboards are still widely used as main means of communication, and so many businesses don’t have a functioning website or social media presence. It is mindblowing to me.

  2. Great ideas David-picking up the phone-is always the tough part, but it works all the time!!! Thank you for sharing.
