Are You Taking Responsibility For Your Results?

Are you taking responsibility for what shows up in your life?

Have you ever noticed how convenient it is to point a finger at someone or something else?

Did you also notice that there was 4 fingers pointing back at you?

Funny how that works.

No one wants to be responsible for getting poor results but taking responsibility is the right thing to do.

How many times has someone twisted your arm to make the decisions you made?

If you are not taking responsibility for the poor results then you will stay stuck.

The definition of insanity is,”doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”

Taking responsibility means you can own up to the consequences of your choices and move forward.

There is a solution for every problem.

The blame game does not work.

Changes come as a result of you making changes in yourself.

The first step in that process is being 100% accountable.

You can get results or make excuses

If someone else has accomplished what you want to achieve then there is no excuse.

That means it is possible.

You can even take that one step further and say that almost anything is possible.

When you take a look around the world you see countless examples of things that were created from the creative imagination of someone.

Chances are when you were young you experienced a lot of blame, criticism and guilt.

Lots of people go through this but there comes a time when you become aware of this and change comes as a result of new choices.

Think about this.

The first 22 years of your life everyone in your world is telling you what to do.

It starts with parents, teachers, coaches, family members and friends.

How many people asked you what you wanted to do or who you wanted to become?

I’m guessing very few.

If you started off with low self esteem and limiting beliefs you would do anything to avoid the sting of blame and criticism.

This was the beginning of your habits that you formed.

Taking responsibility and the compound effect

Along your journey you make thousands of choices and decisions both big and small.

The compound effect takes months or years but the consequences of good and bad choices and decisions will show up.

Take the penny factor for example; a penny is so seemingly insignificant today.

Take that penny and double it every day for 31 days.

1 month.

You end up with a staggering 10 million dollars.

Take 100 tiny little calories extra a day and in two years you have eaten 72,000 calories in excess of what you burned off.

Where’s that showing up?

Read a good book for 30 minutes a day.

Listen to educational or motivational programs in your car.

Exercise for 30 minutes a day.

Take all those good or bad things and apply the compound effect and they add up to great results or big consequences.

Its your choice.

Everything that you do in one area of your life spills over into other areas.

Do you want bad consequences or good results?

Taking Responsibility

Taking Responsibility

Take responsibility for your actions

Stop making excuses and take responsibility for your actions, thoughts and words.

Do you like when people say they will do something and never do it? Exactly!

This will erode all trust and no trust = bad relationships.

It takes bad decisions and bad choices to learn good judgement.

Do you know anyone that makes mistakes?

Only everyone I know, including myself.

If you are not making mistakes you are not trying hard enough.

If you take responsibility for your actions you put yourself on the path of personal growth.

Personal growth needs to be intentional

Excuses and blaming others for your lack of results or failures can easily become a habit.

Once it has formed as a habit then you do it automatically.

You can’t change a habit because it is ingrained in you.

The challenge is to replace the bad habit with a good one.

Habits are the foundation to your character.

One of the most difficult things in life is to unlearn the things you must change.

Taking responsibility for your habits and then consciously deciding to do something about them  is key.

Having a personal growth plan means that you intentionally work on yourself everyday to improve yourself.

It is a life long process.

Life is like a laboratory

Life is an accumulation of experiences.

Your mind is like a giant memory bank where everything you have experienced is stored.

Regardless of how you started off in life with everyone telling you what to do you have to at some point take responsibility.

Your life, your happiness is your choice.

Sometimes it is not easy to overcome the obstacles that land in our path but ultimately it is the choices and decisions you have made that create the life you are living.

If you don’t like the life you are living then change it.

What do you want or do you even know?

Most people know what they don’t want.

Are you one of them?

Jim Rohn, one of the greatest business philosophers that lived had two expressions that make a lot of sense, “What is easy to do is also easy not to do.”

“You can experience the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.”

Have the discipline to take responsibility for what is showing up in your life and changing the outcome to get your desired results.

How to Get Our Sh** Together (The Power of Personal Responsibility)

No matter where you go there you are

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Do you like what you see?

Are you happy with your life?

What choices have you made to get you where you are?

Is it time for change?

Anyone can transform their life.

It happens everyday.

People get tired of the poor results that they have created and depending on your level of determination and discipline you can shift your mindset instantly.

The other option is that you hang on to your current way of thinking.

How is that working out for you?

Remember Jim Rohn said you can either experience the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.

Your life.

Your choice.

Do you want to shift your life and business now?

Do you need help to get you where you want to go?

It’s okay because everyone does.

  4. Great content David on taking responsibility, I’ve always liked the analogy of doubling a penny every day. First heard that concept from the infamous Bill Britt

  5. I love your analogies David.
We have to be intentional about our growth and that compound effect example is really powerful.

  7. awesome Post David on taking responsibility love your analogies especially the part on Personal Growth Needs to be Intentional…thanks for sharing great article (tweeted for you)

  8. Great post David. I’m a big believer in taking responsibility for the results we get in life. Not only to be responsible for the results but also the actions that we take. Too often people blame circumstances for their lack of results when taking responsibility for their actions is what should be the case.

Awesome reminders in this post David.

    Stephane

  9. Oh yes David I know about that finger pointing! lol Great message and reminder for taking responsibility. We are the ones that have the power to create whatever we want in life, but far too many come up with excuses or worse, want to blame others for their misfortunes. Getting results means taking the bad with the good and never giving up. Thanks for sharing valuable advice.
