Does Your Future Matter To You?

Do you have a plan for your future or are you winging it?

If you look at the statistics you would believe that most people don’t have a plan.

85% of all people when they reach retirement age can’t afford to retire.

There has been a lot of changes in the global economy in just the last 8 years.

Companies are downsizing and outsourcing so it makes it very difficult to create stability.

The economic crash in 2008 wiped out a lot of the net worth of people all over the world.

This is one of the problems when you put your future in other people’s hands.

If they make a mistake you feel the consequences.

One of the problems with the formal education system is that they don’t prepare you for the real world.

You have to figure most of it out on your own or find someone you can trust.

If you are expecting your employer or the government to look after you then you might want to start on a new plan.

Your Future

Your Future

If you are not building your future now, then when?

Your future is kind of like that special project you wanted to do a long time ago.

You thought about it, started it and then life happened.

This is what happens very often with most people.

Their intentions are really good but you just never get around to it.

That’s not a special project you are messing with, it’s your future.

A day goes by, a week, a month, a year and next thing you know your lifetime has passed you by.

How much time do you have in a day?

Oh yeah, that’s right.

Same as everybody else.

24 hours a day.

You have no doubt heard the expression, “if you are not working on your dreams, chances are you are working on someone else’s dream.”

As Jim Rohn, the famous business philosopher said, “Do you know what they have planned for you?”

Not much.

Who is responsible for the life you have created?

You.

Maybe it’s time to push that reset button and get busy planning your future.

Setting goals and objectives for your future

There was a study done at Princeton University that tracked people for 20 years.

The study was done to determine if setting goals and objectives produced different results.

They followed up with as many students as they could and the results were astounding.

Your Future

Your Future

Only 3% of the students had set goals and objectives for their lives.

These 3% had created a plan of action.

What was revealed was that the 3% of the students who created goals were worth more than the other 97% of the students who had no plan.

This was a clear indication that if you build your future with goals and a plan of action then you will be financially better off.

I want to make something perfectly clear that money is not the only form of wealth needed to create happiness and and a fulfilled life.

Money gives you the option of making better choices for where you live, the vacations you take and what kind of lifestyle you will have.

The idea is simply that you need to know where you are going and how you are going to get there.

Would you get on a plane and the pilot comes over the intercom and says welcome aboard, I don’t know where we are headed and no idea how to get there?

I think you would get up and walk off the plane.

That is how most people live their life.

How to plan your future

If you have read the paragraph above it would seem that a good place to start is with goal setting.

Let me back it up even one more step.

Do you know what you want?

I mean really know what you want.

I’m not referring to having lots of money, a nice house and a fancy car.

That is really vague.

What does lots of money look like?

What is your perfect house?

Your Future

What do you mean by a fancy car?

You must be specific.

Clarity is a key component.

Unfortunately most people know what they don’t want.

Sit down and start to write out your goals and your dreams.

It doesn’t matter if they make sense or are important to anyone else, it is your future we are talking about.

If you don’t know where to start on how to plan your future then ask for help from someone who has been successful.

You would be surprised how many successful people that would help you get started to build your future.

After all, every successful person started off with just an idea and a dream.

Planning your future requires clarity and a good mentor

I have been building businesses for over 30 years now.

I still have mentors that help me make better choices and decisions.

There are consequences for bad choices and decisions and you are responsible for what happens in your life.

A mentor is someone who is successful and has made far more mistakes than you have.

Everyone needs help to reach the pinnacle of success.

Here are some simple tips on how to plan your future:

  1. Define with clarity what you want.
  2. Seek out the knowledge of people who have achieved what you want.
  3. Create a daily routine to stay focused.
  4. Find an accountability partner who will help you stay on track.
  5. Mind map out a blueprint with a clear concise plan of action.
  6. Nothing will ever be perfect so it is okay to start where you are at.
  7. Create and follow a personal development plan because you will need to work on yourself as much as your business.

I have seen far too many people focus on how much money they want.

That is a recipe for failure.

Its not so much about how much you will make but who you become in the process.

If you chase after money the chase will never end.

There is always something you will want money for and you need to create a lifestyle balance in order to achieve happiness and feel fulfilled.

Look at all the elite athletes, musicians and movie stars who made millions and ended up dead broke.

Build your future on what’s important to you, not others.

You will either get results or you will make excuses

At the end of the day the person you look at in the mirror is the one who holds the key to your future.

If you are not happy where you are at, change it.

If you don’t like your circumstances, change them.

Stop using your friends or family as excuses why you have not achieved your goals and dreams.

One of the biggest stresses in life is not living up to the potential that you know you have inside you.

Everyone knows what to do, if they are not successful then they are just not doing it.

Simple, right!

Make a decision.

Take action everyday.

Your future self is waiting for you on the mountaintop.
