SEO Optimization Tips For Blogging

Are you jumping in on the blogging bandwagon?

One of the great opportunities online is to start blogging.

You can get started for a very low cost and you can build a serious business out of it.

There is probably at least one thing that you know a lot about and could share this knowledge with the world.

The internet is the information highway and chances are other people are looking for what you already know.

Do you remember when all those how to for dummies books came out?

They were extremely popular because lots of people want DIY (do it yourself) projects instead of hiring someone to do it.

Many people are willing to pay for step by step guides and they can have fun learning and doing it.

Blogging is a great way to reach an audience but you do have to understand the basics.

I will be providing you with some SEO optimization tips for your blog to help accelerate your path to success.

Search engine optimization basics

If you are like most people you will be using a WordPress theme for your blog.

That is the number one choice of all bloggers because it is simple and you don’t need to be techno wizard.

There are some things you might need some technical help with but you can handle the rest.

One of the first things you want to do is pick a theme that is simple and fits with the type of product or service you are going to be promoting.

The two main pages that will enhance your blog are the home page and your about us page.

The home page is where your visitors first land and you have 3.6 seconds to grab their attention.

Make sure your blog is well organized and easy for them to understand what you are about.

You want to have a clear message on your home page that makes them see they have landed in the right place.

Do you remember in the western movies people used to have a trigger finger?

Well now they have their finger on the mouse that is ready to click off your site.

According to Hubspot, a website for marketing tools and advice, the second most-viewed page on a blog or website is the “about us” section.

The first thing visitors do is check out your home page to what it is that you are offering.

Remember clarity and simplicity are the key.

People like to do business with people they know, like and trust so they head over to the about us page to see who you are.

If you are able to connect with people on your about page then your conversions for sales will be higher.

Some of the fundamental things you want to publish on your about page are:

  1. Your story. This is where you create the connection. You want to talk a little about you, your journey, why you do what you do and how you once were searching for a solution and felt that you could provide a better offer to others. Be authentic and provide insights as to why they should deal with you.
  2. Visuals. You can either use images or even better produce a video because video is super hot and it it gives them direct access to see you in action.
  3. Your company information. This is a great place to post reviews, testimonials (videos work here too) and showcase your featured product or service.
  4. Call to action. Never leave this out. Its great to give people information but you always want to have an outcome you want to achieve. Do you want them to go to the buy now page, subscibe to your email list or go watch another video of a product demo or a how to video. I don’t recommend sending them direct to a buy page without giving you their name and email address first.
  5. Remember to add keywords that are relevant toy our blog

SEO optimization tips that will get you noticed

Most people like to start their new blogging business off with FREE tools and resources.

The FREE stuff is okay but remember if you are serious about your business then you will have to invest at some point.

FREE techniques and strategies are usually time based and we all know how that works.

You only get 24 hours in a day so you will need better tools and resources to speed up your growth.

When you are choosing your blog keywords for your posts there is a simple but effective way to do it.

You can use Google’s keyword planner tool which is free and you look for relevant keywords to the theme of your website.

Let’s say that your niche is landscaping.

You then will have chosen a target market within landscaping.

Let’s say it was retaining walls.

You go to Google’s keyword planner tool and then typ in how to build a retaining wall.

This will bring up some ad groups of words relevant to your keyword query.

You chose one primary keyword and then 3 secondary keywords.

You have a plugin in your blog, Yoast, that gives you a series of parameters when you are writing your blog.

This will give you keyword density of your primary keyword.

You want to average about .7-2% keyword density.

You want to use the secondary keywords about 3-4 times maximum.

For one of your next blog keywords for your posts you can chose one of the secondary keywords to become your primary keyword.

You keep doing this by drilling down on the keywords in the ad groups on display.

Target keywords that have between 90-1500 searches a month.

If you go for high search keywords there will be too much competition.

You will rank faster with lower volume searches.

Imagine 100 keywords with 100 searches per month.

This gives you a chance at 10,000 searches and gives you a better chance to rank.

Google will also see that you are becoming more of an authority in your niche and reward you with better ranking.

After publishing each post you want to go to   and set up a free account and then ping the keyword and url for the post.

This will send your post out faster to the search engines.

Always use relevant blog keywords.

How to promote your blog

When you produced any content on your blog then you need to promote your blog post or content.

One of the easiest ways of doing this for free is by setting up several social media accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn (if it is business related), Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

I want to caution you on one thing here.

Don’t try to conquer all the social media.

You will just scatter yourself.

You set up the accounts and you can get an automated tool like Shareaholic and you can set up all your social media here.

You can then publish your blog posts to all the sites in a couple minutes.

You can then go join 10-20 relevant groups in Facebook and LinkedIn and you can go copy and paste your blog post url fast.

This gives you more exposure and when anyone likes, comments or shares your post engage with them.

This is all FREE for you.

Never spam, never promote crap and always provide value.

One of the things you can also do for FREE is go to other relevant sites and post a comment.

Post a real comment about the actual content, not just a great post or some gibberish.

This can give you some good backlinks that will boost your ranking.

Don’t do more than 3 comments per day.

Every time you produce content promote your blog.

These are some of the search engine optimization basics to help launch your new blogging business.
